Prayer Posture

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

Psalm‬ ‭105‬:‭4

This way of life isn’t haphazard. It seems that way when we get started sometimes. But there is concerted effort in one direction that we are invited to take.

This is the signal within the noise. This is the direction. Not everyone in recovery is in recovery. It seems like people are running in different directions because they are.

But the simple truth is that those who’ve found the way out of the hopeless state of mind and body have begun relying on and seeking out God.

The strength we need to get through the hours and days where we cannot see a path forward must come from God.

I returned to the faith I was raised in to understand with a newfound vigor how to put it into practice. Because I needed relief. I needed there to be something more than what I’d unearthed on my own.

And when I dug, I did begin to find the compass I’d needed. So much of the misdeeds of my addiction came about from simple aimlessness.

When you wander far and long enough, it becomes your constant state. Without a frame of reference, it’s no surprise that life became a nauseating free for all.

I need my steps to matter and to be directed. I need to be aligned with something true. I need God even when I run away from Him.

I hope I never run that far away again. And I hope that through daily seeking I may stay close to His will.

I still have plenty of days where I am scratching my head, but they lessen as I stay close to His word and attentively seek the next right thing.

How am I attuning to God’s will today?

God, tune my heart to yours.
