God's Will...

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Have you ever told yourself that you’re willing to do whatever God wants if he’d just make it clear to you?

We want to be able to see the open door as well as what’s beyond it before we walk through to the other side.

No matter how depressing it is in the hallway, no matter how long we may have been stuck, no matter how badly we want to get into action and move past our current circumstances, it often feels impossible to take even the first step forward blindly.

It turns out God made us spiritually blind, though. We aren’t designed to see where we are going; it’s only through the many plush blessings of modern life that we’ve deceived ourselves into thinking that we ought to be able to scope things out before stepping forward in faith.

Faith, by definition, requires our blindness.

God, what am I to do? What is your will for me?

Meet each day with Joy appropriate to a life reborn. We haven’t been rescued from addiction to become miserly and depressed.

Pray without ceasing. Prayer is not a quick action at certain intervals. That is only the beginning. Prayer is a fighters stance, a hardened mind, a quiet reprieve. It ought to flow in and through and around us constantly as we seek attunement with our Creator.

Give thanks in all circumstances. Those gratitude lists we all hear about are a good idea for a reason. Adjusting my psyche to be in tune with the positives in every situation forces optimism to pervade my life.

Joy, prayer and gratitude form the grit that lifts me up out of myself.
