A Race You Can’t Win
I will rejoice and be glad in your steadfast love, because you have seen my affliction; you have known the distress of my soul.
Psalm 31:7
Gathered in an unused Sunday school room in the middle of the week to talk about life: the power of recovery groups is on display in the simplest of details.
We are stronger together than separately.
We are able to help one another because we share unique experiences along the same highway through addiction and now recovery.
It is a truism as old as time, but we find it no less impactful—we bond together quickly and easily win one another’s trust and sometimes respect because of our shared paths.
Turns out God is right there with us too. He is personal and has been human. He is able to empathize with us in our journey.
Even back in the psalms we are time and again reminded that he hears our laments and understands our plights.
Getting sober is running for our lives. It’s knowing that if we stop leaning forward our addiction will catch up to us. And it’s knowing that we don’t have the strength to endure.
We need a fuel source.
God, I offer my race to you. Will you fuel me, fill me, carry me?
